If you’re trying to eat an apple a day, you’ll want to try this easy apple smoothie. It’s naturally sweetened with fruit (so you won’t need an added sweetener), and it tastes like Fall, with warming notes of cinnamon.

There’s minimal prep work involved, so you could be drinking this in no time. Be sure to add more apples to your grocery shopping list, as this is one you’ll want to repeat often.

Apple Smoothie Recipe Ingredients

  • Apple. This is the perfect way to put an imperfect apple to good use! Use one that is on the larger side for maximum flavor. The sweetest options are Fuji, Gala, and Honeycrisp (the latter is my personal favorite).
  • Frozen banana. If you keep frozen bananas on hand, you’ll need half of one for this recipe. I like to slice it into small pieces so they are easily pulverized in the blender.
  • Peanut Butter. This adds creaminess and a hint of flavor. It pairs perfectly with apple and banana in a smoothie, but you could also use almond butter or sunflower seed butter.
  • Milk. If you need a dairy-free recipe, use a plant-based milk. (I like soy milk for extra protein.) But any milk will work in this recipe.
  • Ground Flax Seeds. This adds extra fiber, thickens the texture, and makes the smoothie more filling. However, if you don’t have these on hand, it’s not a deal-breaker.
  • Cinnamon. A touch of cinnamon pairs perfectly with the fresh apple flavor, making this smoothie taste like Fall.

I also add ice to this smoothie to help add a slushy texture and distract from all the fiber that the apple adds. (Don’t use too much ice, or it will dilute the flavor.)

How to Make an Apple Smoothie

Step 1:

Cut the apple into chunks and discard the core with the seeds.

Add the apple chunks to a high-speed blender, along with the milk, frozen banana, ground flax seeds, peanut butter, and cinnamon.

Step 2:

Secure the lid on the blender and blend until the mixture looks smooth and creamy. Make you blend long enough that the apple skins are pulverized. The smoothie should appear slightly thick, but with no visible chunks of apple skin.

Add the ice for a slushy texture (this hides the fibrous texture of the apple), then secure the lid and blend again. When there are no chunks of ice remaining, the smoothie is ready to serve right away.

Note: Be careful not to add too much ice, or it could dilute the flavor of your smoothie. You want to add just enough to hide the apple texture, but not so much that it becomes bland.
